There is a limit to the power you can practically generate with DC electrical systems, so for super yachts and other larger heavier crafts DC thrusters are rarely an option. The greater thrust and extended run time make hydraulic thrusters the ideal choice for commercial crafts and other less manoeuvrable yachts. In conjunction with a good hydraulic system these thrusters offer continuous operation and you can get variable speed control with proportional control and valves. Hydraulic thrusters offer two advantages compared to electric thrusters. In conjunction with a good hydraulic system these thrusters offer continuous use. This is often necessary for boats such as fishing trawlers, small ferries and some larger yachts where thrusters are used for more than close quarter manoeuvres. The other advantage of hydraulic thrusters is the ability to control speed by means of a proportional control valve. For many vessels, a hydraulic system offers an economic advantage because of the possibility to run several systems onboard from a centralized hydraulic power source. Stern thruster

The added cost for fitting a stern thruster for your

Compact-sized units

Sidepower offers a unique series of "smart" control panels, one of the most important parts of a thruster system. Single speed control of thrusters are the most common in pleaseure craft where thrusters are sized for normal power to perform docking mwnouvers. Proportional control panels

Proportional thruster control allows you to control the actual power of your thruster. This is important for vessels that use thrusters for more than just docking manouvers and vessels with a very powerful thruster system. Your will not have to run at full power thereby creating rough movements of the vessel in light wind conditions or similar.
